When looking for cookware for your home, skip pots and pans made with teflon, which at high temps release toxic gases and chemicals. Use cast-iron cookware that adds much-needed iron to our diets. Even though cast iron can't be cleaned in the dishwasher, you can 'season' it by rubbing it down with vegetable oil, place on low heat for five minutes, and wipe off any excess oil. Ceramic and copper pots also are ideal.
